January 13, 2023, is Black Excellence day as a lead-up to Black History Month in February. Black Excellence Day recognizes and honours the accomplishments of Black individuals, and SD48 acknowledges the ongoing struggle for equality and justice for all marginalized populations, specifically Black people. This school year, School District 48 is completing a school calendar development process for each of the next three school years. By clicking on the headline, it will link to a website describing the calendar development process, along with information to help you provide input to the Board of Education. On this webpage, you can review the draft calendars and complete a brief survey, which should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. The Board appreciates your input. The survey will close on Friday, December 16th at 4:00 pm.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care has recently released updated health guides and expanded kindergarten-to-Grade-12 curriculum resources to support educators in teaching consent with an age-appropriate and non-discriminatory approach in the classroom. These resources can be accessed within the news release.

Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. This international campaign begins every year on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concludes on December 10, Human Rights Day. The 16 Days of Activism has taken place every year since 1991, and this year’s theme is “Unite! Activism to Violence Against Women and Girls!”. On November 11, Canadians pause in a moment of remembrance to honour the courage and sacrifice of all veterans who have served our country. Today, schools across our district will host ceremonies to commemorate Remembrance Day.

November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day. It is a time to remember and commemorate the stories and contributions of Indigenous veterans in wars and conflicts past and present.
